3000th House Build
Tennessee Habitat Affiliates Celebrate 3000th House Build Groundbreaking
February 17, 2010 115 guests joined Wanda Brewster in breaking ground on her new Habitat for Humanity house. This house marks the 3000th Habitat house built in Tennessee. Wanda, who is sixty years old and on disability, came to Appalachia Habitat after being devastated when her mobile home of 25 years burned to the ground. She is very eager to begin her sweat equity and to own a new home.
This 3000th house groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the entire Appalachia Habitat board of directors, their staff, AmeriCorps*Members, volunteers, Becky Ruppe - Morgan County Executive, Air Force Junior ROTC from Scott High School, John Robbins from Congressman Davis' office, 3 professors and 12 students from Lipscomb University, HFHT staff and board members, John Byczkowski and Todd Berry from FHLBank of Cincinnati, Joe Woody and Chuck Morris from USDA Rural Development, Eric Haralson from FAHE, Lori Caste from GNAR, and Habitat staff from the following affiliates: Cleveland, Cocke County, Cumberland County, Loudon County, and Knoxville.
After the ceremony, all were treated to an incredible lunch at the Harrow Road Café in historic Rugby where Cheryl Cribbet and her staff showed us all Southern hospitality!!
Special thanks to Sandy Spurling, executive director of Appalachia Habitat, the board and staff for hosting this milestone groundbreaking event. Thank you to Haley Terry for all her work in planning the event.

Habitat for Humanity Affiliates proudly dedicate this very special build in memory of Carol Mount Peterson.
"The FHLBank is delighted to join Appalachia Habitat and our Tennessee community lenders celebrate this remarkable milestone," said Carol Peterson, Senior Vice President, FHLBank Cincinnati. "Through our Affordable Housing Program, created 20 years ago, our lenders have helped fund over one-third of Habitat's 3,000 homes in Tennessee."
